La Petite Maison holiday cottage was once the tied home of the estate manager of Vergnette, the country seat of the De Catheu family, a private wooded estate situated in the heart of the beautiful Charente. It consists of 300 acres of ancient oak forests interspersed with fields of sunflowers, vines and cereal crops and bordered to the east by the Charente River. The cottage is fully renovated to modern standards; the accommodation is spacious with three bedrooms: one double en-suite, another double and a twin bedroom with a spare fold down single bed.There is a second bathroom between the double and the twin bedrooms. Clean bed linen is provided each week free of charge. The living area offers extra sleeping space on a double fouton, a fold down travel cot and high-chair are also provided.There is a VCR, DVD and CD player with a large library of films to choose from provided free of charge.The kitchen is fully equipped including a dishwasher, microwave and washing machine along with many extras to ensure a comfortable home from home holiday experience.There is a private courtyard complete with outdoor furniture and barbecue to the rear of the property. The in-ground 5 x 11 metre swimming pool is open for use from June until mid-September, it has a sun terrace with pool furniture and is fenced for both safety and privacy. Change over day is Monday and a starter pack of comestibles is provided on arrival.
Vergnette is located in the centre of the Charente Region giving easy access by car to many other major attractions:1hour north is Poitiers and the second biggest tourist attraction in France of Futuroscope; 1h45m to the west is the beautiful Atlantic coastline with La Rochelle and Isles de Re & d\'Oleron; 30m south is the city of Angouleme with its diversity of restaurants and night entertainment; visit Cognac only 40 minutes drive and take a tour around one of the famous Cognac Houses, see how the product is made from grape to bottle and sample the end product; and in a little over two hours you can be in the Bordeaux wine growing region, take a tour of one of the St Emilion Chateaux then have lunch in one of the many restaurants in this ancient town. It will be a day to remember and you will be pleasantly surprised by the low cost of quality food and wine. There are several outstanding restaurants located within 10 minutes of Vergnette and many more just further afield. All welcome children and are reasonably priced whether haute cuisine or a simple pizza and salad is on offer. Guests are also free to wander at will within the extensive estate grounds with its beautiful, well kept woodland walks and abundance of flora and fauna. The river Charente itself is also accessible via a delightful short walk through the private estate of Vergnette and fishing licences can be bought for 30€ per week in nearby Mansle.
