Our house is named after the red squirrels that we often see along our street and in the gardens round about. This is an area abounding in wildlife including a great many varieties of birds such as ospreys, buzzards, kites and owls. Just one of the many attractions of this beautiful and unspoilt area of France.

In the village there is a boulangerie, alimentation, boucherie/charcuterie, post office and bar with a restaurant and also an 11th – 12th century abbey. Lesterps is 9 km. from the medaieval town of Confolens which stands on the River Vienne and where in the month of August there is a week long dance and music festival and there are many other local attractions. About half an hour away is the town of Limoges, famous for its pottery and in the other direction an hour and a quarter is Cognac where one can visit the distilleries and taste the brandy, of Hennessy, Remy Martin, Courvoisier, and Martell to name but a few. 25 km. away is the town of Oradour-sur-Glane, a Second World War destroyed village with a visitor centre. Futuroscope Science Park at Poitiers is only about 1 hour away. There is a swimming pool in Confolens and the lake at Etagnac is a great place to pass a day swimming, sunbathing or fishing. Slightly further away are Les Lacs de Haute Charente where there are swimming lakes and water sports. There are very good restaurants in the nearby vicinity featuring local cuisine. Our house is the middle one of three and has a garage above which is a ‘grenier’. There is a large room downstairs at the front of which is the kitchen with the water heater, fridge, cooker and mini oven and the eating area, at the other end looking out on to the garden there is the living area. Upstairs are two double bedrooms and a bathroom with a shower, basin and W.C. Although it says that the house sleeps 4, there is room for 7 in total with The sofa turning into a double bed and a single bed in the front bedroom. The garden is large with room to play,eat or relax. You can cool off with a swim in our new 15ft. Plunge pool. Cost of renting Low Season ( Nov. – Feb. ) 175 pounds per wk. Mid Season ( March and Oct. ) 325 pounds per wk High Season ( April – September ) 425 pounds per wk.
